Oak ward is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit for males in Radlett and it has 2 x gardens areas. Unfortunately one of the gardens had become overgrown and the timber ground retaining structures had rotted thus becoming a safety issue. As a result the garden had been out of commission for sometime.
The design of the new garden involved a number of key stakeholders including patient safety, H&S, Ward staff, service users rep aswell as various therapists.
The works involved removing large volumes of earth in order to optimise the usable area. New concrete retaining walls were utilised providing a series of planting areas. Specialist furniture was utilised from ‘Pineapple’ and ‘Marshalls’ and the end result has been well received.
The scheme was awarded to ASHE construction via the NHS SBS framework using the JCT Minor works contract.
