Wheathampstead Golf Village

We are incredibly excited to be providing a multi-disciplinary team including Roberts Limbrick Architects to deliver the new facilities at Wheathampstead Golf Village. A three-phase programme of transformation will provide Phase 1 a substantially refurbished club house Phase 2 Adventure golf and car park expansion.

Clubhouse refurbishment

The first phase of rejuvenating the business is already underway, with planning permission pending (5/2024/2193) to alter the existing openings on the clubhouse. These works will also entail alterations to the internal layout of the building, including relocation of the kitchen, a new reception and golf retail area, and café seating, significantly enhancing the existing facilities on offer.

Adventure golf

The development will provide a new, family-friendly Adventure Golf course on the land currently occupied by the unsafe and underperforming driving range. This Adventure Golf course will cater to a broader audience, including families, tourists, young people and groups with varying levels of mobility. Adventure Golf is an inclusive, low-cost activity that appeals to all ages, from children to seniors, creating an environment where everyone can enjoy outdoor activity together. The course will feature a Roman theme, incorporating information about the historical settlements in St Albans and offering a fun activity quiz.

Car park expansion

To accommodate the increased number of visitors the car needs to be extended to provide adequate parking space. The expansion will ease accessibility and ensure that visitors can enjoy their experience without parking concerns. Adequate parking is essential for attracting groups, families and individuals with wheelchairs.

Inclusivity

A unique selling point is to become an inclusive venue for all, including disabled individuals in wheelchairs. As the designated golf coach for Special Olympics St Albans (SOSA), the Manager of Wheathampstead Golf Village has previously hosted various SOGB National events at other sites. The aim is to host a worldwide event for Special Olympics Great Britain at Wheathampstead.
