Anti-ligature door sensors (Phase 1)
This project involved installing new doors to all bedrooms and any sanitary areas where a service user could be alone. These new doors were supplied by ‘Safehinge Primera’ following a robust client review exercise.
The doors have sensors that can sense if a minimum agreed weight is applied to any sides of the door. In the event that weight is applied then an alarm is triggered and staff are made aware so that they can address any potential incident.
These doors were installed to 3 x live mental health inpatient wards over a six month period. Completion July 2026.
In order to minimise disruption to the ward and to minimise impact on bedroom capacity 2 x doors were worked on at any one time. A strict Quality Assurance and Safety process was followed before rooms were put back into full use.
Various trades were involved in the works including BM Trada approved Carpenters, Decorators, Fire stoppers, Mastic installers, Electricians as well as the incumbent specialists (Panic/Nurse call, Access Control). These were all managed and coordinated via a Principal Contractor.
There were zero incidents recorded upon completion.
